Rangers attacker Ianis Hagi was linked with a move to Steaua Bucharest on transfer deadline day but did not leave the club.
According to owner Gigi Becali, as quoted by the Daily Record on 31 August, the club spoke to his father Gheorghe and told him that his son would be allowed to leave for a bigger club on a free transfer in the future.
However, that was not enough to convince the 25-year-old who ended up staying put at Ibrox.
Becali said: “I spoke with Gheorghe out of respect for him. I told him Ianis would be a guaranteed starter in all of our European games and he could decide what games in our league he could play.
“And if he were to be transferred to a bigger club, we wouldn’t take a transfer fee. It would help Ianis and it would help us. Come and play eight European games and then a bigger team will want to sign him and he can go to them for nothing.”
Rangers must re-integrate Ianis Hagi back into the squad
To reintegrate Hagi effectively back into the Gers squad, the club could start by gradually reintroducing him into training sessions with the first team, focusing on building his match fitness and tactical understanding within Philippe Clement’s system.
Given the 25-year-old’s flair and creativity, utilising him in B Team or lower-stakes matches initially could help him regain confidence and rhythm.
Communication from the management, expressing clear expectations and roles, would be crucial to align Hagi’s ambitions with the team’s strategy, potentially leveraging his experience in European competitions to foster a leadership role.
Integrating him into the squad’s social dynamics and ensuring he feels like part of the team culture could also aid his transition back.
Tactically, deploying him in positions where his vision and passing can unlock defences, possibly as a rotational option or in cup games, would allow him to prove his worth without immediate high pressure.
Hopefully, he can make an impact this season and can put in a shift for Clement’s side.
In other Rangers news, the club had reached another agreement to seal a last-gasp loan signing on transfer deadline day.
