Clement shares new Hagi update at Rangers as transfer window slams shut at Ibrox

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has shared an update on Ianis Hagi’s situation at Ibrox after the transfer window slammed shut.

The Romanian international has been training with Rangers’ B Team during pre-season and the start of the league campaign, but has insisted that he has never once asked to leave Glasgow this summer [Instagram, 27 August].

With the transfer window now closed in Scotland, it had been suggested Hagi could be reintegrated back into Clement’s side, but the Belgian has insisted that nothing has changed regarding the attacking midfielder’s situation.

As shared by the Rangers Review YouTube channel (31 August, 4:15) Clement said: “No I cannot say anything now because there’s not really a development for the moment.

“We spoke about that months ago, really open and honest with him and his agent also that we don’t see him becoming the next number 10 at Rangers for the next couple of years so to look out for other opportunities.

“That story says the same and for sure with Bajrami in the building, you have a situation. We will see with those things in the future, I will not say anymore on it now.”

It seems as though Hagi is very much still out in the cold at the moment even with the transfer window now shut and while supporters will be divided by that decision, Clement’s mind appears to have been made up.

Whether he is right or wrong, the Belgian seems to be insistent that the attacking midfielder has what it takes to not only play week in and week out in Glasgow, but impact games on a regular basis.

What that means for Hagi between now and the January transfer window remains unclear. Some European and Middle East transfer windows are still open so he could still secure an exit in the coming days.

But if he still doesn’t want to leave Scotland, it seems as though he will be left to continue playing in the B Team until the window opens again.

Things can change at the drop of a hat in football however, so supporters would be naive to assume this is the end of this saga.
