Confirmed: Player does not want to leave Rangers after holding talks with English club

Alex Lowry does not want to leave Rangers despite holding talks with a potential move to Carlisle United, according to Paul Simpson.

The manager of the EFL League Two side told News & Star on 30 August that he admires the 21-year-old and wanted to bring him to England.

However, it became clear that a move wasn’t on the cards as he fancies staying put at Ibrox.

Simpson said: “We had a conversation about Alex Lowry but we’re probably going back maybe about a month.

“Alex Lowry doesn’t want to leave Glasgow Rangers, so it got nipped in the bud then, simple as that.

“He’s a player I like, I think he’s a good footballer.

“I think you have to have a certain system to fit him in, but I think he’s a good footballer that could have fitted in – but he chose not to come to Carlisle United.”

Alex Lowry should consider leaving Rangers on loan

Lowry’s decision to remain at Ibrox, despite interest from clubs like Carlisle United, might seem loyal but could hinder his development due to limited first-team opportunities.

At 21, the midfielder is at a critical stage where consistent game time is essential for honing his skills and gaining the experience needed to progress in his career.

Rangers, with a competitive midfield, might not offer Lowry the regular minutes he requires to showcase his talent and grow as a player.

A loan move, especially to a team where he’s guaranteed to play, would allow the Scottish player to adapt to different playing styles, improve his decision-making under pressure, and potentially return to Ibrox as a more seasoned player.

This exposure could also increase his value and appeal, not just to the Glasgow outfit but potentially to other clubs in higher leagues, ensuring his career trajectory remains upward.

However, it remains to be seen if another club makes a move for him in the coming hours.

In other Rangers news, an international winger is expected to complete his medical at Ibrox with Gers eyeing a last-gasp transfer swoop.
