Confirmed: Rangers made 'Good Offer' to attempt to sign player, talks were held with agent

Rangers made a good offer to sign Brighton attacker Oscar Cortes, but the finances were out of their control, claims Nils Koppen.

Speaking to Rangers Review (16 October), the Ibrox chief revealed that it was even higher than the fee they paid to sign Oscar Cortes and after trying to convince Sima and his agent, they gave up hope.

Chris Jack reported in June that a deal to sign Cortes cost the club a fee in the region of £4million.

“We made an effort to bring Sima back to Glasgow permanently with a good offer, a higher fee than the one we agreed for Oscar Cortes. We tried to convince the player and the agent but the numbers were unrealistic so we pushed back on it.”

Abdallah Sima would’ve been an incredible signing for Rangers

Signing Sima permanently would have represented a significant coup for Gers, especially considering his performance last season where he arguably stood out as one of the club’s most impactful players.

Despite his contributions being curtailed by injury, the Senegal international’s output was remarkable, showcasing his potential to be a key asset.

His ability to score crucial goals, including in high-pressure matches like the Old Firm derby, highlighted his clinical finishing and mental fortitude.

Had he remained injury-free, the 23-year-old’s contributions could have been even more transformative, potentially pushing the club to greater heights in both domestic and European competitions.

Sima’s dynamic play not only added depth to Rangers’ attack but also injected a level of unpredictability and excitement.

Losing out on making his transfer permanent might be viewed as a missed opportunity to secure a player with proven quality and future potential, which could have significantly bolstered the team’s attacking options for seasons to come.

In other Rangers news, sources have issued an update as a senior figure has quit the club voluntarily.
