Ianis Hagi is set to leave Rangers this summer and may not return for pre-season, according to his agent Giovanni Becali.
Speaking on the Fanatik Superliga Show (via Ziare.com, 19 July), the Romania internationals’ representative confirmed that his client expects to leave Ibrox and that “several teams would like him”.
How a deal will come to fruition is currently up in the air with the Bears expected to want a fee and the player on big wages, but Becali confirmed he is “about to leave”.
“Ianis has one year left on his contract with Glasgow Rangers,” he said.
“I don’t know when he will, and if he will show up (for pre-season training). He’s about to leave. Now, I’ve also heard, I’m also hearing left and right, that several teams would like him.
“In the sense that Rangers may want to get something back on him. Ianis does not have a small salary with them. We’ll see, it’s time. Only after the Euros did the borders of transfers open, so we will see what it is all about.”
Ianis Hagi has no future at Rangers
It was a bit of a surprise to many when one of the first things Michael Beale did as manager was hand Hagi a new contract at Ibrox, considering he was coming off a serious knee injury.
Hagi never quite got back to his best and it was less of a shock when he was allowed to leave last summer by Beale on a season-long loan to Alaves, where he struggled to make any real impact.
The number ten position isn’t one that is stacked with options for Philippe Clement, but with the way the boss likes to approach games it was always unlikely that 25-year-old would fit into his plans [Chris Jack, 18 June].
An exit was always the most likely option and the hope was that he would shine at Euro 2024 to attract some interest, and it seems as though he may have done just that.
Now it’s about agreeing a deal that works for everyone, but it’s probably safe to say that Hagi has played his final game for Rangers at this point.
