Transfer offers expected at Ibrox for exit-linked Rangers duo - report

Rangers duo Connor Goldson and Scott Wright are expected to be subjects of transfer bids in the next few weeks, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported on its website on Friday (19 July) that anyone other than Jack Butland could depart Ibrox this summer, with the Gers pair expected to depart as part of the major overhaul on the blue half of Glasgow.

Goldson is understood to have garnered interest from the Saudi Pro League and Birmingham City [Daily Record, 24 April], while Wright had been linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday [The Star, 10 July].

Gers’ captain James Tavernier could leave Glasgow before both of his teammates however, despite the fact Trabzonspor have had an initial offer for the 32-year-old rejected by Philippe Clement’s side [Fabrizio Romano, 19 July].

Will Connor Goldson exit Rangers amid Birmingham City transfer speculation?

The Light Blues need to sell before they buy for the remainder of this summer and managing to shift the likes of Goldson, Wright and Tavernier would help put a massive dent in Clement’s wage bill.

Although Goldson has been a mainstay of the Gers’ backline over the last few seasons, he looked massively off of the pace last term and ended the campaign out of Clement’s starting XI after some poor performances.

Similarly, Wright has struggled to hold down a consistent place since the Belgian arrived. While he still produced some moments of magic at Hampden, he doesn’t have the quality the Gers need to beat Celtic to the title.

Hopefully, the bids that have been mooted for both players will be received sooner rather than later so that Rangers can turn their attention to incoming additions ahead of the start of the Premiership campaign.

Until these exits are confirmed, the transfer window can’t really start to get going for the Gers.
