Rangers have issued a bid north of £7million as they attempt to sign Plymouth Argyle attacker Morgan Whittaker, according to the Daily Record.
The news outlet reported on 19 July that Gers saw the initial bid for the 23-year-old right winger turned down by the Championship club.
Manager Wayne Rooney wants to keep the Englishman at the club but is aware that he wants a move to Scotland as he has been on the Ibrox outfit’s radar for a while.
Rangers finally show ambition as Philippe Clement’s future doubts emerged
Gers’ bid for Whittaker demonstrates a significant level of ambition and a willingness to invest in the squad.
This move comes amid doubts about Philippe Clement’s future, as the Belgian had previously expressed concerns about the club’s financial situation and the funds available for transfers and Kris Boyd even feared he might leave the club.
The bid for the 23-year-old, which exceeds £7million, contradicts Clement’s earlier statements and shows that the club is prepared to spend to improve the team.
Whittaker, who scored 19 goals for Plymouth Argyle and provided eight assists in the Championship last season, has been a long-term target for the Ibrox outfit and has been lauded for his skills in the past.
After scoring a hat-trick against Plymouth when he was at Swansea, then manager Russell Martin said: “I thought he was fantastic. He has a lot to work with.”
His addition to the squad would provide much-needed quality and depth in the attacking department and he is a long-term target.
The 23-year-old’s pace and his ability to be a constant goal threat would undoubtedly make him a regular starter.
His signing would also send a strong message to the fans and the rest of the league that Ges are serious about challenging for silverware.
In other Rangers news, business is expected to move quickly as Gers aim to beat Celtic to sign a Euro 2024 player.
