Rangers defender John Souttar was unavailable for the Celtic clash on Sunday and will be ruled out for several weeks.
Ahead of the Old Firm derby on 15 December, Philippe Clement confirmed that the Scotland international’s injury, which he picked up on Thursday against Tottenham, is a serious one that will keep him out for a while.
It is understood to be a groin injury and despite not completely ruling him out in the build-up to the game, it seems that it is a significant setback for the 28-year-old.
Clement said, as quoted by the Rangers Review: “John Souttar will be injured for several weeks. He’s not in the squad.”
John Souttar’s absence is a huge blow for Rangers
Souttar’s extended absence is a huge blow for the Ibrox outfit as he was one of their better players this season.
While he did get off to a slow start at the club and had fitness issues, this term, he’s been among the first names on Philippe Clement’s team sheet.
He has been solid defensively and competent in possession too and has marshalled the back line really well.
In his absence, Robin Propper will now have to step up as his performances over the past few weeks have been far from impressive.
Alternatively, Gers might even enter the market for a new defender in January as Neraysho Kasanwirjo is also out for the long term.
Whether or not the club has money for a new signing, remains to be seen, or they could even rope in someone on loan.
In other Rangers news, David Edgar has issued a claim as the club have made yet another behind-the-scenes change.
