Contract detail emerges as Everton to complete another late signing - report

Everton are going to bring back Asmir Begovic as their latest signing of the transfer window after his exit from QPR, Alex Crook reports.

According to the talkSPORT journalist via X on 19 August the former Chelsea and Stoke City keeper will be back at Goodison Park on a one-year contract.

He is set to become the sixth signing of the summer after spending a season in the Championship at Loftus Road, where he made 46 total appearances.

Everton have already signed attackers Iliman Ndiaye, Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison, as well as midfielder Tim Ireogbunam and defender Jake O’Brien.

Jordan Pickford back-up to return from Everton

All things being well this should be a signing that has very little impact on the pitch where Sean Dyche and the fans won’t want any reason for Jordan Pickford not to be in goal.

But Begovic, 37, has been tipped to provide “vital” experience in the dressing room [Mark McAdam, 19 August] where Dyche could use all the leadership he can get.

The 3-0 defeat to Brighton was not quite as disastrous as the final scoreline suggested and Tim Ireogbunam went a long way to addressing the fact that multiple other midfield targets have gone elsewhere.

But it did suggest that the season could follow a similar dramatic pattern as the previous campaign so Begovic should be a reassuring veteran presence.

Everton are bringing back former goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Iroegbunam was the only one of the new signings to get a start against the Seagulls, although returning loanee Jack Harrison was also in the XI.

The defence may have been dumped in trouble, first by an error from Idrissa Gana Gueye for Danny Welbeck’s second, and then by Ashley Young’s latest reckless sending off.

But it would be no surprise if Jake O’Brien was soon in the line-up for Michael Keane, and Iliman Ndiaye could get a look in after a quiet performance from Abdoulaye Doucouré.

In other Everton news, contract talks have emerged around an attacking ace the Toffees are after.
