Everton are now in talks with Asmir Begovic over a deal to bring the keeper back to Goodison Park, according to Mark McAdam.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via X on 19 August that the 37-year-old is speaking to the Toffees over a return to the club after leaving QPR this summer.
His experience is seen as potentially “vital” in the dressing room for Sean Dyche this season.
If he signs for Everton he would be the sixth of the summer, after Jake O’Brien, Tim Ireogbunam and Iliman Ndiaye on permanent deals, and loans for Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom.

With Jordan Pickford firmly in place in the Toffees goal the need to strengthen at the position is not the greatest on the pitch as things stand.
Fans will have to hope that the potential return for Begovic is not a precursor to the England number one being sacrificed before the deadline for a major fee and is geared towards providing leadership behind the scenes.
Ashley Young managed to exhibit a distinct lack of such qualities when he got sent off in the 3-0 defeat to Brighton in the opener, dumping a right-back selection crisis on Dyche with Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman already out.
Joao Virginia is currently the number two keeper in the senior set up and Begovic may even slot in as third choice if he signs.
A former Premier League winner with Chelsea, the Bosnian made 45 Championship appearances for QPR in the year since departing Merseyside, and would be a very experienced presence in the set-up.
