Ally McCoist has admitted he will watch Rangers’ games in the Europa League against Tottenham and Manchester United from behind the couch.
The Ibrox hero admitted they are brilliant games for the club, with Ange Postecoglou’s return to Glasgow likely to be centre-stage.
Alan Brazil shared live on talkSPORT on 19 September that he had only just realised that Rangers would be taking on the two English clubs.
McCoist then reacted with joy and fear, saying: “They’re brilliant games.
“I’ll be watching those two from behind the couch with the way things are going at the moment. I mean you couldn’t make that up really, big Ange coming back up to Ibrox and then obviously going up to Old Trafford.”
Rangers not ready to face Manchester United and Tottenham
This season hasn’t gone quite to plan for Philippe Clement and his men, as they currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership.
It feels as if things have been in constant turmoil over the last few years and with the recent resignation of chairman John Bennett [The Athletic, 14 September], things don’t seem to be going any smoother.
Losing 3-0 to Celtic and coming away with a disappointing draw from Hearts shows that these Europa League fixtures could be a bridge too far unless things turn around quickly.
However, there is slight hope now after the 1-0 win against Dundee United on 15 September but, as McCoist suggested, with the way things are at the moment, the two English giants may have too much quality for Rangers to handle.
While many new faces were brought through the Ibrox door, with squad players such as Danilo and Rabbi Matondo being sidelined for the foreseeable future [Chris Jack, 5 September], the numbers are thin and that is a worrying sign moving towards these games.
