Crystal Palace are weighing up whether to recall Jesurun Rak-Sakyi from his loan spell at Sheffield United in the January transfer window.
This is according to former Man United, West Ham and Sunderland scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that he is more likely to stay on loan for now, but the option to recall him remains in place.
The right-sided attacking role has been a key issue for Oliver Glasner’s side so far this season after the departure of Michael Olise, and the club are now assessing their options.
Rak-Sakyi, 22, joined the Blades on loan during the summer transfer window for a loan fee which could rise as high as £4million – but the Eagles inserted a break clause in the deal.
Palace retain high hopes for the winger’s development and view him as a future first-team regular, with his displays in the Championship catching the eye.
He has now made 12 appearances for Chris Wilder’s side, with eight of those coming from the start, and has scored two goals while setting up one assist.
As a result, the Eagles are considering handing him an opportunity for regular first-team minutes in the Premier League earlier than initially planned.
Crystal Palace to make Rak-Sakyi recall decision after Sheffield United performances
Rak-Sakyi’s development was stalled somewhat last season after a string of injury issues kept him out of Palace’s first-team plans, but he has hit the ground running in the Championship.
A successful loan spell at Bramall Lane so far has led to suggestions he could now be prepared to make an impact in the Premier League, as Brown insisted Palace have been keeping close tabs on his progress since the loan move.
“Crystal Palace have been monitoring him closely,” he told Football Insider.
“He was sent to Sheffield United because he wasn’t going to be playing every week at Selhurst Park, and that’s still the case now.
“But Palace have had issues in his position, they’ve tried several players there and none of them have pulled up any trees so far.
“There’s been some consideration about whether they should recall him.
“They inserted that option to recall him for a reason – that was something they insisted on in the deal.
“As things stand, I’d expect him to stay at Sheffield United for the rest of the season.
“Like I said, he won’t play regular football at Palace like he will on loan even if they think he could make an impact in that position.
“The option is there, and it’s something they’re considering, but I’d be surprised if it happens.”
