Dan Bardell labelled “exceptional” Arsenal as favourites for the North London derby but admits Tottenham have a “boost” with some notable absentees for the Gunners.

Spurs face their closest rivals on Sunday (15 September) with the Gunners missing injured captain Martin Odegaard and suspended midfield partner Declan Rice.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell acknowledges that helps Spurs’ cause at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but thinks it will still be a tough ask against a “fantastic” Arsenal side.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “Arsenal are still an exceptional side and will go to Tottenham and be the favourites even with injuries.

Any team is going to suffer if you take away their midfield and that’s what’s happened to them essentially.

It is a boost for Tottenham, they’d rather them not play. They’ve still got to get the job done, Arsenal have still got a lot of fantastic players.

Their backline is the best in the Premier League so it will be a case of whether Tottenham can get a hold on the midfield with those players missing.

Arsenal still favourites against Tottenham despite injuries

The Gunners are going to be seriously light in midfield with the likes of Jorginho and Thomas Partey likely to be utilised.

Postecoglou must set up his side with a view to exploit this duo who haven’t played together consistently for Arsenal, which could leave gaps in the middle of the park.

This must see the likes of James Maddison, Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr exploit this space to put their bitter rivals to the sword.

Arteta’s side have one of the best backlines in the Premier League, which will make things difficult.

Without the usual midfield in front of them and Spurs’ stars on song, there is no reason why the home side can’t take all three points.
