Wenham baffled by 'Crazy' Postecoglou squad decision at Tottenham after recent announcement

John Wenham finds it “crazy” that Tottenham defender Djed Spence has been left out of the club’s UEFA Europa League squad.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose would have preferred Pedro Porro to be excluded so the right-back could focus fully on the Premier League.

As per UEFA’s and Tottenham’s official websites, both Spence and Sergio Reguilón have missed out on Spurs’ Europa League squad for the inaugural league phase of the competition.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t understand the decision to leave Spence out at all.

“I find it crazy that Postecoglou has left Spence out of the Europa League squad,” Wenham said.

“It is truly baffling. I thought he was going to play a lot of football in that competition, either as a left-back or right-back.

“I wouldn’t have been against Porro being left out. We’ve seen Chelsea do it with Cole Palmer.

“Porro could have been left out to concentrate on the Premier League and Spence could have started either at right-back or perhaps left-back. I just found that decision very strange.”

It looked as if Spence’s future lay away from Tottenham in the summer. However, he has worked his way back into the first-team fold in North London.

Therefore, plenty of supporters would have likely been surprised to see the 24-year-old miss out on the club’s squad for the Europa League.

There are a few favourable fixtures for the North London side in the competition.

As a result, it would have been a good opportunity for Postecoglou to rotate and hand fringe players like Spence some much-needed minutes.

It now remains to be seen whether Spence’s long-term future still lies with Tottenham.
