Dan Plumley has hit back at a recent Tottenham investment reveal suggesting they are among the lowest investors in the Premier League.
Since ENIC officially owned the club, only four Premier League clubs are said to have invested less – Southampton, Ipswich, Nottingham Forest and Brentford [The Athletic].
Plumley, a football finance expert, warned caution over that and suggested it was transfer-related, with significant investment made in the new stadium to boost the valuation of the club.
“It’s an interesting conversation,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.
“How are we labelling that investment? Principally, that will relate to transfer market activity and the playing side of things, but of course, during that time we’ve had the new stadium built and that’s going to transform the revenues and push the valuation of the club up in terms of overall value.
Tottenham investment reveal emerges
“Defining what we mean by investment is important but if we are talking about the playing side of things, that would also ring true from what we have seen from Spurs in recent years, certainly from some of the critics that say they have not spent enough on the pitch and that’s always been a criticism levelled at the club.
“We know how they operate in the transfer market, ultimately, they’ve had periods of relative success in there as well, maybe they could have gone further, for sure.
“The investment off the pitch has been significant as well which we have to filter in.”
Daniel Levy is a smart man and ruthless in negotiations, but he knows the criticism he has faced in regards to transfer spending, something which did dramatically increase this year.
Investment is still at an all-time high though, with the new stadium leading to suggestions that a takeover could be worth up to £6billion shortly.
You don’t get to that number without real investment, so take this latest reveal with a pinch of salt.
