Danny Ings makes West Ham U-turn after face-to-face talks - expert

Danny Ings could still have a future at West Ham after coming off the bench to score a 95th-minute equaliser against Fulham on Saturday (September 14).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-West Ham striker Frank McAvennie is ‘delighted’ that the 32-year-old ended up staying at the club after being linked with a move away from the London Stadium throughout the summer transfer window.

Ings’ goal earned Julen Lopetegui’s side a much-needed point on the road ahead of a tricky run of fixtures in the Premier League.

The East London club face Chelsea, Tottenham, and Man United all within their next five league games, with Brentford and Ipswich Town making up the numbers.

The arrival of German striker Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund for £27million cast doubts over the future of Ings and fellow veteran forward Michail Antonio.

Football Insider revealed (September 15) that a move for the two is still possible, however, as they enter the last six months of their contracts in January.

“I’m delighted for him”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“He’s been there, he had the chance to go somewhere else, I would imagine the manager spoke to him and said, ‘look, you’ll be part of my team’, there has got to be space there for him.

“It was great to see him score, good strikers, they’re few and far between and he’s a definite striker, an out-and-out striker.

“Old fashioned if you like but if you give him three chances he’d score two, maybe even three.

“I was delighted he stayed because goals are a commodity we don’t have too much of at West Ham.”
