Darren Bent has told Neal Maupay that his Everton future is “over” after returning from a season-long loan at Brentford.

The Frenchman has struggled during his time at Goodison Park but seemed to thrive at the Gtech Community Stadium, netting eight times in 31 appearances in all competitions.

Maupay recently spoke about his love for the Bees, having returned to the Toffees following the end of his loan spell, and some believe this could be his final few weeks as an Everton player.

Speaking via talkSPORT, quoted by HITC on Wednesday (12 June), Bent said: “It almost feels like it didn’t work for him at Everton. He looks like he is comfortable at Brentford. I am sure he would like to stay there.

“But his goal returns haven’t been great. He had a little spell last season when he was scoring goals, but I think his time on Merseyside is over.”

Could Neal Maupay leave Everton this summer?

Since signing Maupay for £15million from Brighton in 2022, as per BBC Sport, the forward has failed to hit the desired heights at Goodison Park.

The now 27-year-old scored 27 goals in 109 appearances for the Seagulls, suggesting that he would be an adequate pairing for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in attack.

However, that pairing has failed to come to fruition, having left on loan last summer and Beto coming in to play a back-up role for Calvert-Lewin, also disappointing when called upon.

The striker position is definitely one area of Sean Dyche’s squad that needs addressing this summer, though the financial situation at Goodison Park makes this a much harder task.

The Toffees may have no other choice but to stick with Maupay upon his return from the Gtech Stadium, unless Calvert-Lewin was to leave on a big-money transfer, having been linked with Newcastle United.

Evertonians will need to brace themselves for a summer of change, with multiple stars linked with moves away, especially the likes of Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite, while Maupay will be slightly less missed than the other two.

In other Everton news, a big-name manager could be appointed if Vatche Manoukian completes a takeover.
