David Edgar issues new Rangers captain verdict as James Tavernier transfer news emerges

David Edgar from Heart and Hand wants Jack Butland to replace James Tavernier as the Rangers captain should he leave.

The Daily Record reported in April that Steven Gerrard is eyeing a reunion with the English right-back at Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League.

It’s also been mooted that the 32-year-old will be sold this summer if a big-money offer arrives on the table.

Via Twitter, Edgar wrote: “Of the current players Butland for me.”

Jack Butland is ideal captain material for Rangers

Butland is an ideal candidate to become the new captain should Tavernier leave the club.

As a goalkeeper, the 30-year-old is already a natural leader on the pitch, commanding the defence and organising the team’s structure.

His experience, having played at the highest levels of English football and for the England national team, brings a wealth of knowledge and a winning mentality to the squad.

Butland’s character and leadership qualities have been highlighted by Philippe Clement, who praised his leadership and compared him favourably with other top goalkeepers he has worked with.

This leadership extends beyond the pitch, as the shot stopper is known for setting high standards in training and driving the team to perform at their best.

His vocal nature and determination to win make him a figure that others look up to and respect.

He’s had an instant impact on the fanbase too so if Tavernier leaves, the supporters will be more than happy to see him wearing the armband.

In other Rangers news, weeks of negotiations are now on the cards at Ibrox with Gers aiming to strike a multi-million transfer deal to sign an international attacker.
