David Edgar: Rangers star to complete Ibrox exit 'Reasonably Quickly' as transfer talks continue

James Tavernier’s Rangers exit and summer transfer to Trabzonspor will be concluded “reasonably quickly”, according to David Edgar.

The Heart and Hand host reported via X on Friday (19 July) that all parties are keen on completing the move during the transfer window as the Gers skipper looks set to end his time at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement’s side and the Turkish giants are understood to not be hugely apart in their valuations of the 32-year-old at this stage, therefore an agreement is expected to be reached.

Trabzonspor had made an initial offer for the Englishman this summer, but reports have suggested Rangers have knocked that back with talks set to continue over improved terms [Fabrizio Romano, 19 July].

Will James Tavernier exit Rangers amid Trabzonspor transfer speculation?

While Rangers fans will likely be split on whether or not the Gers should be selling Tavernier this summer, they will be in agreement that whatever does happen with the 32-year-old has to happen sooner rather than later.

It is in no one’s interest for this saga to drag on throughout the summer. The Gers need him off the wage bill so they can add to their squad, while the player will want some assurances about his future ahead of the new campaign.

Hopefully, Trabzonspor will cough up the cash and match the Light Blues’ valuation. As Edgar suggests, the gap between the two sides isn’t believed to be big and therefore it should be easily bridged by the Turkish giants.

Once Tavernier’s move is complete, it will be interesting to see how Clement and his recruitment team approach the remainder of the summer transfer window because there is still plenty of work to be done.

Supporters will be hoping that they have a list of targets ready to push for once the money for the Gers skipper arrives in the coming days.
