David Edgar has shared his reaction as the SFA chiefs are ready to accept that they made a blunder during the Scottish League Cup final between Rangers and Celtic.
The Scottish Sun reported on 17 December that it’s understood Gers will be told that a penalty should have been given for the pull on Vaclav Cerny and that the VAR duo of Alan Muir and Frank Connor won’t be on duty this weekend.
The Ibrox outfit lost on penalties with the score at 3-3 after regulation time but things could have been different had they been given a penalty in extra time.
Via X, the Heart and Hand host wrote: “Well it’s not like they can defend it.”
Rangers have every reason to fume with this recent development
The acknowledgement by the SFA that a penalty should have been awarded in the Scottish League Cup final comes too late and does little to alleviate the sting of defeat for Gers.
The outcome of the contest could have been different with a correct application of the rules.
This admission, while validating the grievances of Rangers fans and players, does not undo the result and the trophy remains with Celtic.
For Gers, this is more than a mere oversight as it represents a failure in the system meant to ensure fairness.
The lack of immediate corrective action or replay options leaves a lingering sense of injustice, highlighting the need for stricter accountability within football’s governing bodies to prevent such errors from influencing crucial match outcomes.
It’s not the first time such a thing has happened and unfortunately, it will not be the last either.
In other Rangers news, an update has emerged on Philippe Clement’s sack decision as Patrick Stewart assumed his role this week.
