David Ornstein: Chelsea give Everton 'Financially Favourable' terms on 11th hour deal

Everton secured Armando Broja on “financially favourable” terms until he returns from injury, according to David Ornstein.

The Athletic journalist reported via X in the early hours of 31 August that the Albanian striker is due to be out until mid-October due to a foot injury but until he is at full fitness the deal leans in the Toffees’ favour.

Ipswich pulled out of signing the 22-year-old for a second time on Transfer Deadline Day due to the length of time he is due to be out for, allowing Everton to secure a loan move with a £30million permanent option and no up-front fee.

The move was completed in the middle of the night after a deal sheet was submitted to give the club’s extra time after the 11pm deadline.

Sean Dyche won’t have new Everton striker for around six weeks

Broja’s arrival looks to be a relatively low-risk one where the Toffees have taken advantage of a late opportunity.

Chelsea needed to offload players from their huge squad and Ipswich weren’t willing to take on the potential burden.

His injury record and his lack of goals over the past two campaigns are a concern but Everton have been interested in signing him for multiple seasons now [Alan Myers] and will finally get a chance to see what he can do for them.

If he is able to improve on his disappointing loan at Fulham last term then he should be an upgrade on Neal Maupay after the Frenchman’s exit to Marseille.

The former Brentford and Brighton forward never seemed to fit the system at Goodison Park while Broja has been a loan striker at Chelsea, when he has got on the pitch.

The fact that he is injured makes it a positive that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still in the squad, despite interest from Chelsea [The Athletic, 27 August], although his status will remain a concern as the risk of losing him for nothing increases without a contract extension.

In other Everton news, a transfer collapsed for a player who the Toffees thought they were going to sign before a late snub.
