'Disaster' - Dan Bardell urges player to quit Tottenham ASAP amid interest from abroad

Dan Bardell believes Djed Spence should leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer in a deal that would suit all parties.

The Englishman could be set for a move away from North London with Genoa formalising their interest with an opening bid, according to Fabrizio Romano (13 June).

After signing from Middlesbrough in 2022, things just haven’t gone right for Spence, who could be set for a permanent move to Genoa.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has told Spurs to cut ties with the 23-year-old for the benefit of his career.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “His signing has been an absolute disaster. Antonio Conte didn’t really like him and neither does Ange Postecoglou it seems.

“It all smacks of a player who has made a big move too soon. Spence would have been better served staying at Forest after a successful loan spell.

“He made the move to Spurs which never made much sense for the player or the club and his career has stalled as a result. He needs to get out of Tottenham Hotspur as soon as possible.“

Spence had the world at his feet after a superb loan spell with Nottingham Forest in the Championship where he secured promotion.

This saw plenty of interest arise for the right-back, but it was Tottenham under Conte who won the race, although he never seemed to be the Italian’s signing.

Since the move, he has made just six appearances for the club in all competitions, while having three loans away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is safe to say that it hasn’t worked and even with these temporary moves, his career hasn’t gotten back on track as of yet.

There is a chance that a permanent move away from Spurs could be what he needs but it is pretty clear he won’t play a role under Ange next season.

With that being said, a wing-back option to be a backup for Pedro Porro would have been useful if only Spence could find his feet in the Premier League.
