'Dispossessed Cheaply' - National media slams 4.5 Everton star after int'l loss

Everton defender Jake O’Brien failed to impress in a substitute appearance for the Republic of Ireland against England on Saturday 7 September.

The Boys in Green suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Three Lions thanks to first-half goals from Declan Rice and Jack Grealish.

The Everton man came on with over half an hour to go but failed to impress as online outlet balls.ie on 7 September rate his performance 4.5/10.

They picked out two moments that particularly frustrated supporters, saying: “Dispossessed cheaply with just over 20 minutes to go, and picked up a yellow card in his half hour on the pitch.”

Heimir Hallgrímsson decided against starting the Toffees defender but brought him off the bench with over half an hour to go.

The 23-year-old was unable to truly impress during his substitute appearances with Ireland failing to really land a glove on Lee Cardsley’s side throughout.

Given that the centre-half is yet to appear in a Premier League match under Sean Dyche since signing, he needed to prove himself for his country but wasn’t afforded much of an opportunity.

It will be disappointing to Dyche to see the ex-Crystal Palace youngster lose all three of his duels across his cameo.

With Ireland having a clash against Greece coming up, the Toffees star will be hoping for a better performance to impress and earn a league appearance.
