'Doesn't look good' - Sky Sports pundit reacts to 'Surprising' Ibrox redevelopment news

Kenny Miller believes the Rangers hierarchy have known of the severe issues with Ibrox for months and has demanded the fans get clarity.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard [3 July], the former Gers player called on the club’s board to speak out, believing there is one primary reason to believe the Ibrox saga would get this serious for months.

With the SFA reportedly ready to give Rangers the go-ahead for the club to use Hampden Park for at least the opening few weeks of the 2024-25 season as Ibrox redevelopment works continue to stall, the announcement back in March of a friendly with Manchester United at Murrayfield – 48 miles away in Edinburgh – was a major hint according to Miller.

Sky Sports pundit Miller said: “It was surprising to hear the news that Ibrox won’t be ready. But it doesn’t look good on the club in terms of organisation, whatever the reasons are.

“The Champions League game in particular, that Ibrox atmosphere has been such an important part of Rangers’ European fixtures which they’re not going to have now.

“So where is it going to be? They need to make a decision to let the fans know where their home is going to be for the next three, four or five games.”

Rangers fans let down by Ibrox chaos

How Rangers have kept supporters in the dark this long is becoming surreal, especially with the importance rightly given to the mammoth squad rebuild the footballing staff have on their hands – with which progress is coming along well.

All of this is geared towards becoming champions of Scotland and European competitors again, and the hard work on the pitch is being let down by the fact of being unable to play matches at the club’s home stadium for the foreseeable future.

Whilst matters like the delay of material shipping from Asia are out of the club’s hands somewhat, the lack of clarity as pointed out by Miller towards the club’s faithful spins Rangers’ destiny into oblivion in the opening stages of the season.

Kenny Dalglish has also said that August – the opening month of 2024-25 – has turned out to become the “make-or-break” month in Rangers’ season due to the shambles that has unfolded.

Many have called on the club to simply set an affirmed date, which would mean supporters and the club would then once again sing from the same page – but there is not yet a date or a point in the season to work towards.

In other Rangers news, the club’s interest in a Ligue 1 midfielder has forced his club into new contract talks.
