Newcastle deal for Everton star not dead - report

Newcastle United are still interested in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton and a deal could be revived later in the summer, according to Luke Edwards.

Writing on his personal X account (24 June), the Telegraph journalist reports that the Magpies have pulled out of talks for the 27-year-old striker as they deemed the Toffees’ £40million asking price as “totally unrealistic”.

But their interest is not dead but with Everton no longer under pressure to sell a deal is unlikely as things stand, with Newcastle not willing to watch the current asking price.

The summer transfer window is going to be very busy at Goodison Park, but it seems as though there is a much firmer grip on things this year than in recent times.

The club have already rejected a bid for Jarrad Branthwaite from Manchester United, and completed transfers for Tim Iroegbunam, Jack Harrison and Iliman Ndiaye is said to be on his way in a deal worth almost £20million [Abdellah Boulma, 24 June].

However, they have also made it clear they won’t be taken for a ride and with Lewis Dobbin sold to Aston Villa the club believe they are compliant with PSR now [Paul Joyce, 20 June]

But they are open to a sale if the offer is right with Calvert-Lewin entering the final year of his contract at the club, and not inclined to pen an extension.

If Newcastle come back into the mix later in the window with a new offer it will surely be considered, and it could give Sean Dyche some extra funds to continue bolstering his own squad.
