Done Deal: Experienced Rangers fringe player seals move to British club on loan

Rangers fringe goalkeeper Kieran Wright has secured his season-long loan move to Airdrie, the Scottish club confirmed on 5 July.

While the 25-year-old has not made his senior debut for Gers, he has gained a lot of experience after his loan spells at Dumbarton, Partick Thistle and Albion Rovers.

With Airdrie currently returning from Belfast on Friday, 5 July, the Scotsman will join up with the squad next week.

Rangers should have sold Kieran Wright for a transfer fee

While Wright may have joined first-team training in the past, he’s not a player who was ever close to making his senior debut.

The club should have sold the 25-year-old for a transfer fee instead of loaning him out again because he has been at the club since 2016 and has not made a senior debut.

At that age, he is no longer a young prospect and has had multiple loan spells at lower-level clubs without making a breakthrough.

His chances of breaking into the first team at Gers are extremely slim.

Selling him would have allowed Rangers to recoup some of the investment they have made in his development over the years.

Additionally, it would have freed up a spot in the squad and potentially allowed the club to invest in a younger goalkeeper with more potential.

Loaning him out again only delays the inevitable and does not provide a long-term solution for the player or the club.
