Dan Friedkin is now expected to give Sean Dyche the opportunity to earn a new Everton contract once his completes his takeover, TEAMtalk reports.
According to the outlet’s website on 24 October the prospective new owner is not expected to remove the former Burnley boss, “despite reports claiming the group will look to replace him”.
Dyche’s current deal expires in the summer and with the Friedkins expected to buy the club from Farhad Moshiri in late 2024 or early 2025 they are reportedly keeping the door open to a long-term stay for the manager.
Everton started the season with four-straight losses and went out of the Carabao Cup, but have since won two and drawn two to lift fortunes, and with The Friedkin Group to conduct a full review of the club that is due to keep Dyche in place in the short-term, and potentially also for the long-term.
The Friedkin Group close in on Everton from Farhad Moshiri
It was only a few weeks ago that it was in question whether Dyche would even make it past the second international break [TBR Football, 13 September], with leads thrown away in spectacular fashion and infuriating comments made post-game.
The upturn in form has, perhaps unsurprisingly, been enough to ward the Friedkins off making any sudden decisions when they first come in [i News, 22 October].
But with Dyche brought in to fight fires at Goodison Park during a period of extreme turmoil, and with fans divided over his style already, it would be a major surprise to see him extended.
He would have to put together a pretty spectacular second half to the campaign to make it a popular decision to give him a new contract, and it seems likely that it won’t happen either way.
Whatever the criticism of his tactics and his substitutions, which can be extremely frustrating, Dyche has done a vital job at Everton keeping the club in the Premier League in the past two seasons.
But with the Toffees looking to be upwardly mobile from next term as they move into a glittering new stadium under new ownership it would seem to go against the grain to retain a manager who has already faced sack pressure during the dark final years of the Moshiri reign, although stranger things have happened.
In other Everton news, conversations may have already been had over a “statement signing” once for once the Friedkins arrive.
