Indeed, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are two absolute rocks at the back, and it’s hard to pick a flaw in either player, let alone pick between them.
Ahead of Arsenal’s game against Manchester City this weekend, David Seaman has been building a combined City and Arsenal XI, and he had to choose between Saliba and Gabriel for this team.
Seaman put John Stones in as his first centre-back, and when choosing between Saliba and Gabriel he didn’t hesitate.
As good as Gabriel has been this season, Seaman says that it’s easy to pick Saliba ahead of his Brazilian counterpart.
William Saliba is better than Gabriel
Seaman easily picked the £30m man ahead of Gabriel on the Seaman Says Podcast.
“So we’re going to put John Stones in so you have to pick between William Saliba and Gabriel?” Seaman was asked.
“Saliba, that’s quite easy,” Seaman said.
William Saliba and Gabriel work so well together
Whether or not Saliba is better than Gabriel is up for debate, but the reality is that neither player would be this good if it weren’t for their partner.
Indeed, Gabriel and Saliba complement each other so well, highlighting each other’s strengths while masking any weaknesses.
Let’s not forget, Gabriel wasn’t this good for Arsenal before Saliba got into the team, while Saliba didn’t impress in the same way he is now when he was on loan at Nice.
Both men are incredible defenders, and their partnership could well lead Arsenal to a Premier League title this season.
Arsenal are very lucky to have such a strong and sturdy defensive partnership, and while Saliba may be more highly rated, Gabriel deserves plenty of credit as well.
