End of transfer window hot for club as they make Everton attacker priority - report

Marseille have made Everton striker Neal Maupay their priority striker signing before the transfer window closes, according to FootMercato.

The French source reported [24 August] that the end of the transfer window promises to be “hot” for the Ligue 1 side as talks remain ongoing over a deal this summer.

It is understood that Marseille are facing competition from Brentford for the 28-year-old, having spent last season on loan at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Everton to sell Neal Maupay before transfer window closes?

With Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom now part of Sean Dyche’s cavalry, the Toffees can certainly afford to lose the Frenchman this summer, but only at the right price.

Maupay has struggled at Goodison Park since arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, scoring just two goals in 34 appearances before returning to the Bees on a season-long loan.

It is looking more and more likely that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will remain with the Toffees despite being linked with an exit for most of the summer, which means Maupay will be a rotational player for the most part.

He may not even get a look-in as a substitute, with Beto on the bench and showing few signs of leaving anytime soon, so it makes sense to get rid of the 28-year-old if a suitable offer is tabled.

It is also understood that Maupay is interested in joining the Ligue 1 giants, as per L’Equipe, but they are looking at a loan deal while the Toffees want £6.7million to sell the striker [Le 10 Sport].

Seemingly a no-brainer for a striker who has only netted twice for the club, Evertonians will not be upset to see the back of the controversial forward, who has managed to trigger most fans in the Premier League.

With the transfer window nearing its closure, however, the hierarchy at Goodison Park needs to strike a deal before it is too late.

In other Everton news, Paul Merson has shared a new relegation prediction in a “shocked” verdict.
