'Enormous Opportunity' - The Esk moots serious Everton influence amid Friedkin takeover

Everton have an “enormous opportunity” to be a strong influence in the Premier League if Dan Friedkin completes his takeover, according to The Esk.

Writing on his website on 30 June the Toffees analyst suggested that in the wake of new minority Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s comments to Bloomberg (20 June) relating to how the “big six” should have more control over the game in this country a Friedkin-led Everton could emerge as a leader of the other 14 top flight clubs.

Under Farhad Moshiri he admits the Toffees have been in no position to provide direction for other teams but if Roma owner Friedkin follows through on his exclusivity agreement with the current majority shareholder and purchases the club that could change, based on the size and history within in the English game.

The Esk wrote: “The agenda is being set. It is far from too late to really influence the future of the game. Although the Friedkin Group will have much to do internally at Everton, surely Everton’s role (given our historic relevance) should provide them with a platform to shape the competitive environment to the benefit of us and indeed, all.”

Everton to lead Premier League block after Manchester United chief pushes for Big Six?

The Toffees returning to prominence under strong management at the top has seemed like a pipe dream at times during the chaos of the past few seasons.

But with the Friedkin deal seemingly moving in the right direction, despite the potential for stumbling blocks still during his due diligence checks, it is starting to become more of a realistic possibility.

The size of the club, the support, the historical prominence and the new stadium are all elements that would have contributed to Friedkin’s interest in buying in the first place, and are also factors that could feasibly make Everton an important part of the top flight picture moving forward if the club is run correctly.

There has been no little disquiet at the perceived two-tier system by which the Premier League appears to be governed, with the Toffees seen by some as cracked down on harshly last season with a pair of points deductions for PSR breaches compared to, for example, the light punishment the teams which attempted to join the European Super League received.

Farhad Moshiri looked to now be on the way out at Everton.

So the prospect of an Toffees side which has finally got their house in order financially stepping forward to assert themselves as a key player in the Premier League will undoubtedly be an attractive one for Evertonians.

There is plenty of work to do to get to that point even if Friedkin gets his deal over the line but it is perhaps more likely now than it has been at any point for some years.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers has issued a Dominic Calvert-Lewin contract update after his transfer exit collapsed.
