Euro club make approach to sign Rangers defender - report

Ridvan Yilmaz has been approached by Besiktas over the possibility of a transfer from Rangers, according to Sabah Spor.

The report on 10 June states that the Turkish club are looking for a replacement for Arthur Masuaku, who has attracted interest from French side Nantes.

Yilmaz is a Besiktas academy graduate and moved to Glasgow from his boyhood club in 2022, but could now be set for a return.

Yimaz enjoyed a strong 2023/24 campaign, ousting veteran Borna Barisic as the Gers’ first choice left-back.

However, the 22-year-old suffered a hamstring injury which limited his involvement in the second half of the campaign.

Still, the Turkey international displayed a real creativity from full-back, creating 2.24 chances and completing 2.3 crosses per 90 on average in the Scottish Premiership last term [FotMob].

His capacity to beat an opponent is arguably his standout quality, completing 1.9 dribbles per game on average in the league last season.

His abilities in attack are plain to see, but Yilmaz’s defensive numbers are cause for concern.

He averaged just 0.9 tackles won and 0.62 aerial duels won per 90 in the 2023/24 Scottish Premiership, as well as being dribbled past 0.84 times per 90.

If the Gers can sell their eye-catching young full-back for a decent fee and invest in a more rounded wide defender, Philippe Clement is unlikely to complain.
