Rangers star makes transfer decision as exit approach now made - report

Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz does not favour a return to Turkey and Besiktas just yet, according to Sabah.

The Turkish outlet has reported that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s club has made an approach for Yilmaz to replace the outgoing Arthur Masuaku.

Yilmaz has reportedly met with Besitkas’ Football Co-ordinator Samet Aybaba but “no positive response” was received following their meeting.

But, because the left-back wasn’t included in Turkey’s Euro 2024 squad, he could eventually say yes to his former team if a move is made.

What the departure of Ridvan Yilmaz would mean to Rangers

Yilmaz has been a stalwart in Phillipe Clement’s team since his arrival at the club and this season alone, the left-back played a total of 32 times across all competitions.

The 23-year-old was, however, often brought on as a substitute with over half of his Scottish Premiership appearances coming off the bench.

Granted, this was largely due to the involvement of Borna Barisic who has been Rangers’ first-choice at left-back since arriving at the Ibrox in the summer of 2018.

At the end of the 2023/24 season, however, the Croatia international left the club as a free agent upon the expiry of his contract.

This means that for the 2024/25 term, Yilmaz could be in with a shout at getting a starting role, hence why the defender isn’t so keen on a move.

However, the Scottish giants have also just announced the signing of Brazilian left-back, Jefte, a player who they’d previously tried to sign in January.

This is certainly one to watch across the summer transfer window.
