Everton are interested in signing Palmeiras sensation Richard Rios, according to teamTALK.

The report (2 August) indicates that the Brazilian club want at least £12 million in order to let him go, with the likes of West Ham, Manchester United and Leicester also being interested.

This comes just a few weeks on from suggestions that Everton, alongside the Foxes, had made their interest known (Nicola Parcerias, 18 July).

It is understood that Rios is seen as a potential replacement for Amadou Onana at Goodison Park after he left Merseyside to join Aston Villa earlier in the summer transfer window.

Dyche tries to add flair at Everton

While the club continues to try and resolve issues off the pitch, it’s clear to see that Everton boss Sean Dyche is working hard to add more talent to his squad. He’s always been given the label of a manager who focuses on results more so than attractive football, but Rios is a young midfielder with a futsal background and an incredible work rate to go alongside it.

Earlier this year, Tim Vickery touted the “dynamic” number eight as one to watch when it came to South American stars heading to Europe (ESPN, 3 April). While there’s no guarantee he’d make a strong transition over, the Toffees need a replacement for Onana.

This isn’t a direct switch as they have two different styles, but Rios has settled into his defensive midfield role quite nicely. With so much speculation surrounding potential outings at Goodison Park, the club will need to move quickly if they want to get this one over the finish line.

In other Everton news, Sean Dyche was stunned at a question regarding Jarrad Branthwaite’s future after the Blues completed their latest signing.
