Everton have been busy so far in the summer transfer window and there is an expectation the Blues may have completed their business for the summer.
Sean Dyche has bolstered his options in almost every area of the pitch ahead of the new season, but there is a belief around supporters that the Toffees could still do with another winger.
It had seemed as though Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto could be heading to Goodison Park, however, reports suggest the Italian is unlikely to make the move to Merseyside because of the Whites’ high asking price [Yorkshire Evening Post, 27 July].
That will leave Kevin Thelwell and his recruitment team looking at alternative targets and one name who may have caught the eye will be Watford wide man, Yaser Arpilla.
Reports have suggested Everton have shown an interest in the Colombian international and there is a belief he could be available for a cheaper-than-expected fee as he enters the final year of his contract [Sunday People, 7 July, page 57].
Will Yaser Aprilla exit Watford amid Everton transfer rumours?
The Blues aren’t the only team interested in the Championship star, with Ligue 1 side Rennes also keen on his signature, but a new update from Fabrizio Romano may have given the Toffees hope a deal could still be struck.
Writing on X on Friday (2 August) the transfer specialist said: “There’s still no final agreement between Rennes and Yaser Asprilla.
“Despite direct talks yesterday, Asprilla and his agent Jonathan Herrera have just returned to London. More discussions to follow for Watford talent’s future.”
With no deal agreed between Asprilla and Rennes, Everton and Thelwell have been given a window of opportunity to swoop in and secure the winger’s signature before he completes a move away from Vicarage Road.
The 20-year-old may not be quite as highly rated as Gnonto, but he is a cheaper and more available alternative. If Everton want to sign him, there is definitely a deal to be struck between all parties.
It will be interesting to see whether or not the Toffees reignite their interest and try and stage a last-minute hijack.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been told to make a call around Kalvin Phillips’ future as he is left in “purgatory” at Manchester City
