John Wenham claims it would be a “disaster” if Cristian Romero is unavailable when Aston Villa visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes Ange Postecoglou’s side will need the central defender for the Premier League clash with Villa (3 November).

Postecoglou confirmed via Spurs’ official website on Friday (1 November) that there is a chance of Romero featuring against Unai Emery’s side.

Meanwhile, Micky van de Ven has been ruled out of the clash (via Spurs’ official website, 1 November).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think Spurs will be able to handle Villa’s attacking threat if both centre-backs miss out.

“We need Romero to play against Villa,” Wenham said.

“To be without Romero and van de Ven against Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran would not be ideal at all

“Hopefully, Romero does play on Sunday. We can’t have both of our centre-backs missing against Villa, that would be a complete disaster.”

Cristian Romero to miss out for Tottenham v Aston Villa?

Romero and van de Ven are Spurs’ two starting centre-backs. Therefore, to be without both of them against one of the Premier League’s best sides in Villa would be a huge blow.

Spurs made a statement with their 2-1 fourth-round Carabao Cup victory over Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday (30 October).

And Postecoglou will want his side to build on this.

However, if Romero doesn’t make the starting lineup against Villa, that could be a very difficult thing to do.

In other Tottenham news, a £100million Timo Werner claim has emerged after the win against Manchester City.
