Philippe Clement could start Vaclav Cerny among four changes to his Rangers starting line-up to face Motherwell on Sunday 3 November to save his job at Ibrox.
The Belgian appears to be on borrowed time in Glasgow after the 2-1 loss against Aberdeen on Wednesday [30 October], with potential replacements touted less than 24 hours after the defeat at Pittodrie.
However, the Rangers board is not expected to take drastic action [Rangers Review], allowing Clement an opportunity to make a last-ditch attempt to save his job at Ibrox.
His side felt the loss of Vaclav Cerny at Pittodrie and he could return to the starting lineup alongside Robin Propper, Jefte, and Hamza Igamane to ensure nothing is left to chance when the Gers return to Hampden Park to face Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.
Philippe Clement must throw caution to the wind for Motherwell v Rangers
Jack Butland remains the undisputed number one at Ibrox and should start between the sticks after his penalty save kept the scoreline admirable in the loss at Pittodrie.
James Tavernier is expected to continue at right-back as Dujon Sterling continues to be selected further up the pitch when introduced off the bench, whereas John Souttar should be allowed the opportunity to redeem himself at Hampden Park after his handball gave away a penalty against Aberdeen.
Leon Balogun has started the past three matches for the Gers with mixed success, however, Clement must go with his strongest lineup to take on Motherwell and despite concerns regarding his fitness troubles, Propper should return to partner Souttar.
Jefte lost his place to Neraysho Kasanwirjo midweek in a failed experiment and the Brazilian should be reinstated to the starting lineup on Sunday.
The midfield three is arguably set in stone at Ibrox with Connor Barron pairing Nicolas Rasking in the pivot and Tom Lawrence operating in the number 10 role and all will be expected to go again on the weekend for the Light Blues.
Cerny missed out against Aberdeen due to a minor injury concern, which may have significant ramifications for Clement. The Czech forward and Nedim Bajrami have been sensational in the front line for Rangers and will be expected to line up again to deliver goals in the League Cup.
Cyriel Dessers has let down Clement far too many times this season and the Nigerian should pay the price in what could be the manager’s final days at the helm. Hamza Igamane showed plenty of promise, opening his Gers account in the 4-0 win against FCSB and he should be given another opportunity to impress at Hampden Park.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement has been dubbed ‘delusional’ for what he said after the Gers’ defeat at Aberdeen.
