Ianis Hagi will be getting “angry” and “stressed” with his situation at Rangers after the transfer window, according to Virgil Ghita.
The Gers attacker’s Romania teammate called him an “extraordinary boy and player” and predicted his current predicament will work itself out, but admitted he would also not feel positive about it were he in the same position.
Hagi has been frozen out of the first-team picture at Ibrox despite wanting to stay at the club [Sky Sports, 12 August], and Philippe Clement reiterated at the close of the transfer window that he has no plans for the 25-year-old [Daily Mail, 31 August], but the next step is not yet clear.
“He didn’t tell me anything concrete”, Ghita said, via the Daily Record on 3 September.
“He waits his turn. It’s normal to be careful what you say, what you do in moments like this. He’s probably a little angry, stressed. I would be the same if I were him. However, I believe that things will resolve themselves, because Ianis is an extraordinary boy and player. It will be fine!
“It depends on the situation. I don’t know what’s behind him, what offers he still has on the table, whether he wants to leave or not. In his place, I would have fought primarily to catch the team, but I would not have ruled out going elsewhere either.”
Ianis Hagi rejected Rangers exit to Rapid Bucharest
Hagi seemingly held out hope that there was a back for him into this stuttering Gers squad, having rejected a move to Rapid Bucharest [Sky Sports, 26 August] and put out a message on Instagram on 27 August reaffirming his commitment to the club.
Clement clearly sees things differently and just bought a new attacking midfielder in Deadline Day priority signing Nedim Bajrami [Daily Record, 29 August].
So if continuing his Rangers career is off the table for Hagi as the club looks to avoid his 100th appearance, which looks very much like it would be the trigger for the pay-rise clause in his contract [Daily Record, 13 August] he needs a quick move elsewhere before the remaining transfer windows close.
If he doesn’t manage it he will either he stuck playing for the B Team until at least January or the club will have to terminate his contract with a pay-off [Daily Record, 29 August].
From the Romanian’s point of view none of the available options appear to be what he wants, but from the club’s a permanent transfer would be ideal, albeit too late to benefit a frustrating transfer window now closed.
