View: Steve Clarke clueless, Scotland position has to be under fire after Rangers star decision

Steve Clarke may find himself under extra pressure as Scotland manager after calling up Rangers midfielder Connor Barron to his squad on Tuesday 3 September.

The Tartan Army are preparing for the first international break since the failure of a campaign in the EUROs over the summer.

They will face Poland and Portugal in their opening Nations League games in the coming weeks in hope of making a positive start to their campaign.

Supporters have already been left somewhat unimpressed after the latest announcement which has seen Barron called up to the senior side for the first time.

The 22-year-old made the move to Ibrox over the summer and put to bed a transfer saga revolving around his departure from Aberdeen.

Since joining the club, the Gers have undergone a rough start to the season which has seen them dumped out of the Champions League and humiliated once again in the Old Firm.

Although this hasn’t been solely down to Barron, this has to have an impact on him being introduced into the men’s national side.

The midfielder has started six of the Light Blues’ seven games in all competitions so far this season, looking particularly out of his depth against Celtic.

In fairness to the ex-under 21 international, he has been a rare silver lining after a difficult start to the season under Philippe Clement.

It just seems to be a desperate move from Clarke to include a player from a struggling Rangers side while the national team is performing poorly itself.
