John Wenham has expressed his concern after Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven suffered another hamstring injury.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is worried about the frequency at which the Dutchman is suffering this type of setback, an opinion shared by talkSPORT host Darren Bent.

Ange Postecoglou confirmed via Spurs’ official website on Friday (1 November) that van de Ven sprained his hamstring during the 2-1 fourth-round Carabao Cup win over Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday (30 October).

While the Spurs boss suggested the injury wasn’t anything “too serious”, van de Ven is still expected to be out of action until after the November international break.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested things could have been worse.

“Losing van de Ven was the only real disappointment against City,” Wenham said.

“It looks like he will be out for a couple of weeks. That means he will miss the games against Villa, Galatasaray and Ipswich at least.

“That isn’t the worst outcome. However, it is very frustrating and concerning that these hamstring injuries seem to be a reoccurring issue for the defender.”

Micky van de Ven sidelined once again at Tottenham

Supporters in North London won’t need any reminding that van de Ven was ruled out of action for a couple of months with a hamstring injury around this time last year.

Therefore, there will be some relief that the injury isn’t as serious this time around. However, it is still concerning that van de Ven has once again suffered a hamstring injury.

A big part of the defender’s game is his speed. This is something which could be seriously impacted by recurring hamstring injuries.

As a result, Postecoglou will no doubt be concerned.

Therefore, if the Australian wants to help protect van de Ven, he needs to perhaps ensure he rotates the centre-back even more frequently and offers him increased rest.

This only highlights the importance of keeping hold of Radu Drăgușin as transfer speculation around the Romanian continues to swirl (via Gazzetta dello Sport, 1 November, page 6).

In other Tottenham news, Leeds United have been backed to seal an “unbelievable” agreement with Spurs for Archie Gray.
