Everton have expressed a desire to sign Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Tariq Lamptey on a free transfer, according to AfricaFoot.
The online source reported [6 November] that the 24-year-old’s current deal at the American Express Stadium expires at the end of the season and is keen on a move elsewhere.
The defender is said to be struggling with the Seagulls this term, having only made one Premier League appearance so far, and a decision could be made within days before the winter transfer window opens.
Everton to solve full-back issues with Tariq Lamptey?
A full-back signing was one of the biggest concerns during the summer transfer window for Sean Dyche, and the manager was never given the opportunity to bed in a new player.
This has seen academy star Roman Dixon given an opportunity in the first team, with Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson experiencing long spells on the sidelines through injury this season.
While Ashley Young looks to be going through a renaissance in recent weeks, beginning to make the right-back role his own, the 39-year-old is still making some fans wince each week.
Lamptey, on the other hand, is one of the most exciting and talented full-backs in the Premier League when playing at his best but has been kept out of the Brighton side in recent seasons.
If the 24-year-old is frustrated by his amount of game time on the coast, a move to Merseyside would certainly help his development and progression in the game, and add a new dynamic to Dyche’s attack.
A lot of the Toffees’ goals come from loading crosses into the opponent’s penalty area, a style of play that would be brilliant for Lamptey, given his abilities in the final third as well as in defence.
Furthermore, if the right-back is going to be readily available, it seems like a no-brainer decision for the Toffees and should strike a deal as early as possible to avoid another club stepping in.
