Armando Broja’s move to Ipswich Town could be about to collapse amid Everton interest in the striker, according to Jacob Steinberg.

The Guardian journalist reported via X on 24 August that the Albanian’s loan switch to Portman Road is in danger due to “paperwork issues” and Kieran McKenna’s side are now considering alternatives.

Chelsea want to offload Broja before the deadline with the Toffees still linked, amid uncertainty around Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Steinberg wrote: “Armando Broja’s loan move to Ipswich is in danger of collapsing over paperwork issues. Chelsea have been looking to move the Albania striker, who has interest from Everton. Deal not off but Ipswich are considering alternative forwards.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin Everton future unclear amid contract issue

Broja looked to be the latest player Sean Dyche and the Toffees had lost out on to Ipswich after Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste, with a £30million loan-to-buy was agreed.

But the transfer window is nothing if not unpredictable and it looks like 22-year-old could be back on the market in the final days.

Chelsea’s urgency to move him on might mean this unexpected development causes them to accept a lesser deal to ensure he leaves before the deadline.

However, that is still unlikely to be possible at Goodison Park unless there is movement among the incumbent forwards first.

Everton target Armando Broja’s Ipswich move could be set to collapse.

Should Calvert-Lewin be subject to a late bid Sean Dyche has admitted the club might be forced to let him go despite it being so close to the window [Guardian, 22 August].

If Broja is available in that situation the Toffees would surely move fast to attempt a move, but given the tight timeframe they may need to discuss one ahead of time so it is ready to go if necessary.

Neal Maupay wants to move to Marseille after the French side made a loan offer [L’Equipe, 20 August], so if something is agreed to let him go it may be possible to work out something to bring Broja in.

But there are plenty of moving parts involved and it is not yet certain that his move to Portman Road is definitely off.

In other Everton news, it has been confirmed that another Premier League ace the Toffees want could now move before the window shuts.
