Everton man progresses towards injury return over int'l break - report

Seamus Coleman is making progress towards a return to the Everton first team over the international break, according to Joe Thomas.

The Liverpool Echo journalist reported on Saturday (12 October) that the defender, alongside Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko, is closing in on a return at Goodison Park after his recent struggles with injury.

Coleman has been limited to just one Premier League appearance so far this season, having picked up an injury whilst on international duty with Ireland in September when Harry Maguire appeared to scrape down the defender’s Achilles.

What has happened to Everton veteran Seamus Coleman at Goodison Park?

While he is unlikely to be a regular starter when he returns from injury at Goodison Park, having Coleman back fit and available this season will be a massive boost to Sean Dyche and the rest of the team on Merseyside.

The Ireland international is as experienced as anyone in the Premier League and while he may not be able to have the same impact on the field anymore, he is more than capable of rallying the troops off of it when it is required.

He gets Everton. The right-back knows what the club means to the fans and that cannot be undervalued, particularly in what has been an incredibly difficult few years for everyone associated with the Toffees.

Hopefully, when he gets fit, he will manage to stay injury-free and available for an extended period of time. Although Ashley Young has rolled back the years in the last few weeks, the Blues cannot be left relying on a 39-year-old to play each and every week in the Premier League.

With Patterson, Mykolenko and Coleman all reportedly close to a return, Young will finally be given some support and hopefully a bit of a rest.

Whether or not that will be immediately after the international break remains to be seen.
