Everton pull plug on last-ditch signing - report

Everton have now ended talks with Lyon for Ernest Nuamah ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Harry Watkinson.

The TEAMtalk journalist reported via his personal X account that the 20-year-old winger is no longer set to arrive at Goodison Park despite a reported breakthrough in the deal earlier on 30 August.

It is understood that Nuamah had initially agreed on a deal to join the Toffees ahead of the 11 pm deadline, as per Foot Mercato, joining on a £25.2million deal from the Ligue 1 club.

Fans are likely to be extremely disappointed with the stance on Nuamah, especially after so many positive updates surrounding the last-minute transfer.

Transfer Deadline Day can be full of ups and downs, especially for a club like Everton, and that seems to be exactly what has happened with just a few hours left until the window slams shut.

While Nuamah’s move to France has not worked out as many would have expected, or loved to have seen, anyone who has watched the young forward will know the talent he possesses.

He scored 21 goals in 49 appearances for Nordsjaelland in Denmark in his teens, prompting multiple clubs to sit up and take notice, with Lyon finally pulling the trigger, initially on a loan deal before making the move permanent.

A move to Merseyside could have helped him to rediscover his previous form, but that no longer looks to be an option after the Toffees’ latest decision.

Fans will now need to come to terms with the attacking lineup of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Iliman Ndiaye, with Neal Maupay now securing his exit from Goodison Park.
