Everton ready new bid for 'Brilliant' priority signing, convinced they can land deal - report

Everton are convinced they can finalise an agreement with Willy Gnonto this summer as they weigh up an improved transfer offer, according to Caught Offside.

The outlet reported via their website on 26 July that the Toffees have made another approach to Leeds United in the past week and with money brought in from the sale of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa they are continuing to push for the “brilliant” Whites attacker.

Sean Dyche has apparently made clear where he wants that cash spent and a £28million bid is now being decided on.

That offer is “expected” to be made within days and with the 20-year-old said to want to leave Elland Road there is confidence of doing a deal.

Everton push for Willy Gnonto after Jesper Lindstrom deal

The Toffees have just completed the loan-to-buy signing of Napoli winger Jesper Lindstrom and have already brought Jack Harrison back on loan from Leeds.

Iliman Ndiaye was also bought on a permanent deal from Marseille so another wide man isn’t the most obvious priority.

Everton and Leeds were said to be around £5m apart in valuations of the Italian international, according to TEAMtalk on 22 July, so a £28m offer would be a solid compromise.

But the Whites aren’t obliged to sell and proved a year ago that they will refuse if necessary, even if Gnonto wants the move.

Everton have just completed the loan-to-buy signing of Jesper Lindstrom from Napoli.

Sky Sports’ Alan Myers (24 July) had seemed confident of work on a deal for Gnonto even amid reports of Lindstrom approaching.

But more recently he has expressed doubt over the possibility [Myers, 26 July], and with the Dan Friedkin takeover collapse in the background it is possible that the finances have been reassessed.

It is no secret that the Toffees have been prominent in the race for Gnonto over the past year, so if a deal is possible they should be well-placed, but it will be costly for a player where three have already been added.

In other Everton news, an update has emerged on a starting defender amid a “major cause for concern”.
