Everton scouts were left “very impressed” after attending Ibrox to monitor Rangers forward Hamza Igamane, TBR Football reports.
According to the news outlet’s website [17 December], the Blues are showing strong admiration for the 22-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.
Sean Dyche is eager to recruit a new striker, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin showing “no inclination” to extend on fresh terms at Goodison Park [BBC Sport], and the search for his long-term replacement has taken the Toffees to Scotland.
Calvert-Lewin’s future on Merseyside could depend on The Friedkin Group’s Everton takeover, but Dyche is wasting no time doing his due diligence to future-proof the forward line.
Everton may replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin with Hamza Igamane
The Blues are likely to line up in 2025 with a new focal point for the attack, and Igamane could be the man to lead the line at Goodison Park.
He has not long found himself as the leading man at Rangers, but his performances in the Europa League have not gone unnoticed after following his two goals and one assist in a 4-1 win against Nice with a goal against Tottenham in a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.
Given the Gers’ well-documented financial woes, Everton could tempt the Scottish Premiership outfit to part ways with the Moroccan only five months after his arrival.
However, the Blues will face stiff competition for the forward: West Ham, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham and Newcastle United are all keeping tabs on Igamane, while interest is also appearing in Europe with Lille and last season’s Europa League finalists Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen known admirers.
While the amount of interest may be daunting, Dyche may have no choice but to fight to convince Igamane to make a move south of the border.
Calvert-Lewin and Beto have mustered only three Premier League goals this term, with the Blues lingering only three points above the relegation zone.
Everton need a recognised goalscorer, and Rangers would be willing to negotiate for a sizeable fee.
Kevin Thelwell could even steal a march on the competition by including a loan move for Nathan Patterson into a potential deal, with Philippe Clement interested in bringing the defender back to Ibrox.
