Everton star hands club £160,000-a-wk ultimatum after Kevin Thelwell talks - report

Jarrad Branthwaite has told Everton he will not sign a new contract at Goodison Park unless he’s offered a deal worth £160,000-a-week, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their website on Thursday (25 July) that Branthwaite, 22, wants the Blues to match what Manchester United are offering him if he was to quit Goodison Park for Old Trafford this summer.

It is understood that the centre-back currently earns £70,000-a-week but the Toffees are prepared to hand him fresh terms to show his worth to the team.

However, the Mail claims that Branthwaite has given his club an ultimatum – either offer him the £160,000-a-week he could get at Man United or he doesn’t sign a new deal.

United’s interest is currently on hold after talks between their sporting director Dan Ashworth and Everton’s Kevin Thelwell.

Will Man United sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton?

You cannot blame Man United for trying to sign Branthwaite.

Even though he’s 22 and spent last season trying to battle against relegation from the Premier League, the ex-Carlisle ace was easily one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

Branthwaite’s fine form on Merseyside saw him earn his debut England cap prior to Euro 2024 so Everton have every right to ask for a lot of money for him.

Unfortunately, it means that he also has the right to ask for a lot of money.

Everton’s financial situation is currently up in the air after Dan Friedkin’s group backed out of buying the Merseyside club from Farhad Moshiri, who’s really struggling to offload his shares to someone else.

Branthwaite could stay on Merseyside

The Blues are riddled with debt, PSR is an issue and the club’s knife-edge position in the Premier League means selling players comes with the risk of making it harder to stay up next season.

Branthwaite has to stay, really. But there have got to be huge question marks about the affordability of his demands.
