Everton star yet to accept contract extension, Goodison Park door remains open - report

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is yet to accept a new Everton contract but the door remains open to him at Goodison Park, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The outlet reported on its website on Saturday (28 September) that the striker is yet to accept the contract extension offered to him earlier this year as he enters the final months of his current deal.

Although there is still a chance the England international could put pen to paper on the Toffees’ latest offer, the 27-year-old could leave Goodison Park as a free agent at the end of the season if it remains unsigned.

Reports earlier in the season had suggested that talks between Calvert-Lewin and the club were not advanced, with no substantial changes occurring in the opening weeks of the campaign [Fabrizio Romano, 22 September].

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Goodison Park developments?

It is unclear why Calvert-Lewin has been reluctant to sign a new deal to extend his stay at Goodison Park, but it feels as though the England international will need some convincing to remain on Merseyside beyond his current contract.

The uncertainty in and around Everton over the last couple of years is unlikely to have helped the situation, but the announcement that the Friedkin Group have agreed a takeover deal could ease those fears.

While he isn’t the perfect centre-forward, Calvert-Lewin has shown this term that he is still the Toffees’ most consistent source of goals. Losing him for nothing, even with Armando Broja waiting in the wings, would be a massive blow.

Hopefully, a breakthrough will finally occur in contract negotiations between now and the end of the season. Although the Blues won’t want to overpay for his services, they will be keen to not allow him to walk away for nothing.

From both a financial and footballing standpoint, it would send the wrong message if a striker left Goodison on a free transfer as they entered their prime years.
