Goodison View: Dyche to axe senior Everton player v Crystal Palace after what happened recently

Sean Dyche may opt to drop Michael Keane to the bench as Everton hope to pick up their first three points against Crystal Palace.

The Toffees, who sit in 19th place with one point on the table, will host the 16th-place Palace at Goodison Park on 28 September.

Given Jarrad Branthwaite’s availability, as confirmed by Dyche in the pre-match press conference, Keane is likely to be the one to make way.

Everton have conceded the most Premier League goals this season

The 31-year-old has played the 90 minutes in all five league games as well as the two EFL Cup matches and his performance has not been quite up to the standards of Branthwaite.

Thus, it’s come as no surprise that the Toffees have the most porous defences in the Premier League – conceding 14 goals.

Hopefully, Branthwaite’s return from injury could tighten things at the back, giving Everton a better chance at winning the game.

Michael Keane should be dropped for Everton v Crystal Palace

In the 1-1 draw against Leicester City last weekend, Keane picked up a yellow card and did not look comfortable against the Foxes attackers.

According to Sofascore, he made no tackles and lost 50 per cent of his ground duels as well as his aerial duels.

He also lost possession on four occasions and did not look quite so comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Even with his long balls, he could manage only a 60 per cent accuracy rate – something which Branthwaite is better equipped at.

The 22-year-old is undoubtedly a better defender and formed a seamless understanding with James Tarkowski last season so his return would improve their chances of keeping a clean sheet in this game.

In other Everton news, the Friedkin Group have made the decision on sacking Sean Dyche and talks have been opened with a league-winning manager.
