Everton have made an offer of £16million to sign Galatasaray defender Davinson Sanchez, according to Ali Naci Küçük.

The Turkish journalist told Futbol Arena on 5 July that the Toffees have bid for the former Tottenham centre-back but the Istanbul giants currently intend to keep him at the club.

Gala want around €30m [£25.4m] if they are to let the Colombian international leave this summer, having only signed him from Spurs last season.

The 28-year-old has started all three games so far at the Copa America as his nation topped their group, scoring in the 3-0 victory over Panama on 29 June.

Everton make cash offer for new defender after Ben Godfrey exit

The focus at Goodison Park when it comes to centre-backs has largely revolved around the future of star English youngster Jarrad Branthwaite’s future amid unsuccessful attempts from Manchester United to sign him.

For the kind of money that is seemingly necessary it may be that the pursuit of Sanchez is tied to the Toffees man, since Sean Dyche also has his former Burnley charge James Tarkowski as the other regular starter.

However, Ben Godfrey has now been sold to Atalanta after rejecting offers of a new contract [HITC, 11 June] and there is a need for options in the centre of defence when the current back-ups are Michael Keane and Mason Holgate who have both been a long way short of their best for some time.

Everton have offered £16million for Galatasaray’s Davinson Sanchez.

Sanchez may have fallen out of favour at Spurs as the London side cycled through multiple managers but has extensive Premier League experience (143 games), has 62 international caps, and has played over 50 times in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

Now that Everton have got through the 30 June deadline with regards to profit and sustainability concerns, and have a Dan Freidkin takeover moving in the right direction, it remains to be seen what cash is available to spend this summer, with Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye already signed on permanent deals, and interest in further defenders.

But if Dyche and Kevin Thelwell see value in a push for Sanchez he would surely be the top back-up as things stand, if not a starter.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are “big favourites” to beat Premier League giants and sign another sensation.
