Dan Friedkin has made a new takeover bid at Everton to complicate matters this week, according to the Guardian.
The newspaper reported on 17 September that the bid had been made despite John Textor having a period of exclusivity until the end of November.
It is said that club officials’ main concern is the long-running takeover saga, and Friedkin’s recent bid could throw a spanner in the works as talks progress.
Everton takeover saga takes yet another twist amid Friedkin bid
It seemed as if there was no chance of Friedkin becoming the Toffees’ new owner in the wake of his consortium unceremoniously pulling out of takeover talks in July.
However, the American remains intertwined with the club due to the £158million loan his group paid off to MSP Sports Capital before talks with Moshiri collapsed – meaning he is now owed that money [Liverpool Echo].
Despite all of the different twists at Goodison Park, Textor is said to remain the frontrunner to complete a takeover before the end of the year [Alan Myers, 16 September].
With the Crystal Palace stakeholder looking to speed up the sale of his shares at Selhurst Park [Daily Mail, 12 September], more movement could be expected very shortly.
For Toffees fans – who simply want to draw a line under Moshiri’s stewardship – the hope will be that the two American investors come to an agreement, and finally decide who will take the reins going forward.
In other Everton news, Stephen Warnock thinks the club face an imminent decision on the long-term future of Sean Dyche.
